Intakes

Entry Requirements

  • STPM: Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 in: Biology/Physics and Chemistry.
  • A-Levels: 2 passes in Biology/Physics and Chemistry.
  • Matriculation or Foundation / Pre-University: Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 in Biology/Physics and Chemistry.

With additional requirement of 5 (five) credits or equivalent at SPM/O-Levels, 3 (three) of which must be in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or English.

  • UEC: Possess 5Bs, two which includes Biology/Physics and Chemistry.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB): Possess 28 points, with a minimum of one Science subject in either Biology, Physics or Chemistry at higher level.
  • Diploma/Equivalent: Obtained a Diploma in Occupational Therapy (Level 4 / Malaysian Qualifications Framework, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or an equivalent qualification that has been approved by the Senate of Perdana University; OR a related diploma from recognised institutions with CGPA of below than 2.75 and a minimum of 3 years (36 months) working experience in the same field.
  • Other relevant qualification approved by the Senate of Perdana University.

Additional requirements for international students:

  • Should have IELTS (6.0) / TOEFL (550) paper-based or equivalent.

Curriculum

Year 1

  • Subjects include anatomy and physiology, psychology and neuropsychology, introductory pathology, general medicine, orthopaedic and surgical conditions, therapeutic activity and general pharmacology.
  • Compulsory university subjects will be undertaken during the first 2 semesters. In the second semester, students will be sent to clinical placements for 3 weeks of clinical observation.

Year 2

  • Students will be exposed to essential practice in occupational therapy, which include the use of assessments and interventions through the study of neurological and paediatric conditions.
  • Students will be exposed to assessments and interventions in the subjects of orthotics, pressure garments, prosthetics, kinesiology and biomechanics.
  • A 4-week placement will be conducted where students will be exposed to hands-on clinical experiences.

Year 3

  • A number of Year 3 subjects are specific to the role of intervention and include ergonomics, elderly care, sensory integration, and special education for children with disabilities.
  • Through the subject of Research Methodology, students will be expected to study occupational therapy practices in their research findings. Management of occupational therapy services will also be one of the subjects taught in this year.
  • The last 4 weeks in the sixth semester will see students placed in clinical settings of psychiatric institution or departments.

Year 4

  • Subjects include community based rehabilitation, health promotion, work rehabilitation, driving rehabilitation as well as sexuality and disability in the practice of occupational therapy.
  • Students will be able to gain an 8 week clinical experience and at the same time, to carry out their research project.

Clinical Placements

  • Clinical placements will be undertaken at various places, including those of government and non-government agencies and institutions.
