Accommodation
Accommodation is plentiful in the locality of the college. Each year the Students' Union prepare an accommodation guide to help you find somewhere to live.
Costs currently average from £80 to £100 per week depending on the type of accommodation offered. When you agree a rental amount with a landlord you should make sure you know exactly what this covers in terms of household bills (such as gas and electricity).
Campus
Our Campus: making you feel at home
Students feel instantly welcome and at home on our beautiful campus. Set in beautiful woodland grounds, just five minutes from Bournemouth’s award-winning beach; it is a perfect location to go for in-depth study.
The marriage of heritage and innovation is no more apparent than through our facilities and buildings. The main college building dates back to 1888 and is now home to:
- two large lecture theatres
- practice rooms
- science and human anatomy pro-section laboratories
- innovative learning services
- eating facilities
- student bar, lounge and retail centre.
It sits alongside our state of the art clinic and Centre for Ultrasound Studies.
Students also benefit from an on-site gymnasium, which houses cardio equipment, indoor football pitch, Olympic lifting platform and climbing wall.
Learning Services
Our Library is housed within our college building, boasting an extensive collection of musculoskeletal books and journals. We have access to a wide range of electronic resources, which can be accessed from both inside and outside of the college.
All AECC students are signed up to our learning portal Moodle, where teaching and learning resources are uploaded to by faculty members and students, and to MyBU, Bournemouth University’s Virtual Learning Environment. Clinical Exercise Science students use myBU and also have access to all the resources provided by AECC Learning Services.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus and there is plenty of space for students to work independently or in groups, using their own laptops and tablets or those supplied by the college.
The AECC Clinic
Those who choose to study with us benefit from our onsite, state-of-the-art teaching clinic featuring:
- 34 consultation and treatment rooms
- a functional sports assessment and rehabilitation centre
- facilities for diagnostic and 4D ultrasound, x-ray and fluoroscopy.
Imaging services at the AECC
Centre for Ultrasound Studies (CUS)
We are proud to boast an onsite centre of excellence in our Centre for Ultrasound Studies. The centre provides a number of innovative, high quality ultrasound courses for a number of healthcare professionals and allows AECC students to engage with Ultrasound as a diagnostic facility. It also hosts our MSc Medical Ultrasound programme, providing placement opportunities for those on this programme, subject the amount of places available.
MRI
AECC’s imaging and research portfolio is soon to receive a further boost by the installation of a new open, upright MR scanner. This will make possible both 3-D biomechanical studies and investigations combining spine motion information from OSMIA with structural changes in vertebrae, discs and muscles that can only be obtained using MR. A special benefit of this particular scanner will be the ability to scan people standing up, providing information about spinal pain in positions that actually provoke it.
X-ray and OSMIA
Students can refer patients to our onsite x-ray facility which also houses our OSMIA equipment for measuring spinal movement as described in our research section.
The college is based in Bournemouth, on the South Coast of England.
This metropolitan town will offer you the experience of living by the seaside while being able to easily access the countryside and a large choice of shops and restaurants. Bournemouth also has a vibrant nightlife, with something to suit everyone. Living in Bournemouth means you are never too far from the beach and most students tend to be able to get around easily on foot or using public transport.
